Luxemburg Sights, UNESCO, Climate and Geography
According to COUNTRYAAH, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is located in northwestern Europe and, like the Netherlands and Belgium, it belongs to the Benelux. Luxembourg is divided into the following districts, Diekirch, Grevenmacher and Luxembourg. The largest city in the country is Luxembourg City, which is also the country’s capital. Luxembourg borders the countries Belgium, Germany and France.
It is one of the smallest countries in Europe but also one of the richest countries in the world per inhabitant. According to the International Monetary Fund, GDP is the highest in the world here. This is mainly due to the banking sector, which is strongly represented here, and the presence of the stable industry.
Many people only know the country from the car on their way to France or to another holiday destination. This is a shame because the country has a lot to offer, such as the serene tranquility that prevails outside the larger towns and the beautiful natural beauty. This is the main reason for most people visiting the country to come to Luxembourg. The hilly landscape here is ideal for long walks and bike rides in the great outdoors.
The beautiful nature makes Luxembourg very popular with campers. In total there are about 60 campsites in Luxembourg, most of which are located on one of the many rivers or streams. The country has many nature parks, most of which are open to the public. The large Obersauer nature park is very popular with hikers who go on a multi-day hike. The country also has many fortresses and castles that can be visited almost all of them, in the summer months they can be visited almost continuously. In the winter months, different opening times generally apply.
Sights
In addition to the beautiful nature and the tranquility that most people come to the country for, there are still a number of places that you must see in the country. For example, the capital of the country has already twice been cultural capital of the year. The old town of the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the old town, the beautiful Adolf Bridge connects the station area with the old center. In the extreme southeast of the country, near the three-country point, is the village of Schengen, where the Schengen Agreement was signed in 1985. In the north of the country, the castle of Clarvaux is located in the village of the same name. In this castle there are three permanent exhibitions, including the photo exhibition “The Family of Man” by Edward Steichen, which is on the Memory of the world list by UNESCO.
UNESCO
Since 1994, the old town and fortifications of the capital Luxembourg have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Climate
Despite the inland location of Luxembourg, the country has a temperate maritime climate that is protected by the Ardennes, which ensures that the climate here is generally very pleasant. The summers are warm without getting really hot, the winters can be cold but the temperatures will not get very far below freezing. The northern part of the country is generally a bit cooler than the rest of the country.
Geography
The highest point of Luxembourg is not, as many people think, the hill Burgplatz but the lesser-known hill Kneiff which with its 560 meters is just 2 meters higher than the Burgplatz. In addition to a number of smaller rivers and streams, the following rivers run through Luxembourg: the Chiers, the Moselle, the Sûre, the Zwarte Ernz, the Alzette, the Attert and the Wiltz. Most of the rivers eventually end up in the Moselle, only the Chiers is an exception, which flows towards the Meuse.
